| After the open studio weekend I received a request to help someone learn to paint. How cool is that? My beginner's story is a way in for other creatives who feel curious how arts and crafts can add joy to their lives too. These workshops are low-key for newbies in the art world and held at my home studio in beautiful Oamaru on Cape Wanbrow overlooking our stunning harbour (pictured above). I also provide the materials. The programme shown here is an example. Let me know what you would like to learn and we will explore the options together. It is a wrap! Welcomed over 40 visitors to my home studio during the Waitaki Arts Trail in Oamaru, New Zealand. The weather was gorgeous and the intimacy of the small studio stimulated nice, interesting and touching chats and a sale! I am sure at least one person walked away inspired to start creating themselves. A fellow trail artist shared that "a number of people specifically mentioned either intending to visit you or had visited and loved your work, also appreciated your honesty about your progress and how you are learning, advancing etc." :-)
Waitaki Meet the Maker (MTM) - Open Studio Weekend 21-22 October 2023 was a great success! I welcomed 36 visitors and even sold some paintings and designer cards! Wow for a beginning artist I was thrilled and the best part was that some people were inspired to start creating themselves. Mission accomplished!

This beautiful autumn leaf that I found after a rain shower in the local public gardens was just waiting to be captured. I entered it in an Able Minds New Zealand photo competition to use for one of their organisation's affirmation cards 'I easily take time for self-care'. I was thrilled to win this category! Hoping that this image and the other cards will uplift people's moods or become a prompt to re-connect with (their own true) nature. What do you feel when you see this display of love?
I was experimenting with bringing leaves and flower petals to life again on a small canvas. To me it represents the freedom to create, to design your own life or to give life to your ideas and visions. I dried the botanical bits and pieces first and used this natural material to create a bird. I had not thought about the design beforehand so it was a pleasant surprise when this 'freedom bird' appeared.
A liked the quote a ' fresh new look' as it can be applied to so many aspects in life such as changing your hairstyle, your room, really looking at yourself fully and in this case re-purposing pre-loved items from the garden.
I feel coaching is like this: providing a new perspective to the old patterns distracting you from the freedom within.
